Parade of Floats Kicks off
The Woodlands Waterway
Arts Festival April 12

The Woodlands, TX – The Floating Art Parade launches April 12 at 10:30 a.m. in conjunction with the opening of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival. The parade features floating art pieces created and designed by local businesses and organizations.

Participants designed and created floating art pieces that reflect this year’s chosen theme, “Water Creatures.”  Participants in the parade include The Woodlands Development Company, Woodforest National Bank, The Woodlands Art League, Town Center Theatre, DLP Productions, The Houston Museum of Natural Science, The Pavilion Partners, Montgomery County Youth Services, Progressive Commercial Aquatics, Inc. and The John Cooper School National Art Honor Society. The best entry receives The Waterway Cup, a unique piece of art designed by one of the festival artists. Festival jurors will vote for the best entry. After the judging and awarding of The Waterway Cup, the floats will be anchored and displayed throughout the festival weekend.

"We have 10 exceptional floats in the parade from various community businesses and organizations,” said Brenda Gottlieb, festival director. “Each team has taken the theme of ‘Water Creatures’ and interpreted it with great imagination. It promises to be a colorful flotilla of floating art along the Waterway and a one-of-a-kind kick-off for the Arts Festival as well as the opening of the Fountains at Waterway Square.”

Floats for the parade will be launched from the boat ramp near Town Green Park at 10:30 a.m. They will be guided east on the Waterway to the bridge at Six Pines Drive where they will turn around and head west back to Town Green Park. The floats will remain moored there throughout the festival. Spectators can view the parade along the Waterway between Town Green Park and Six Pines Drive.

The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival features more than 200 national and regional artists of various mediums selling their original creations.  The two-day festival takes place along The Woodlands Waterway® from The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel alongside The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and culminating at Town Green Park.  Festival hours are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday.  Admission is $10 for adults.  Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
