Tanya Doskova Named as Featured Artist
The Woodlands, TX - The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival is set to hold its fifth annual event April 10 and 11, 2010. The festival is a juried fine art show featuring 200 national and regional artists in 14 mediums selling their original creations. Festival hours are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Two-day tickets are $15. Proceeds from the festival benefit local charity partners including The Pavilion Partners, The Woodlands Art League and The Woodlands Children's Museum.
"We were thrilled that more artists from across the country applied to participate in this year's event than ever before," said Brenda Gottlieb, festival director. "This tells us that The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival is growing in recognition and prestige among artists, one way to measure the success of the event."
The festival takes place along the Waterway from The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center alongside The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and culminates at Town Green Park. This beautifully landscaped site in the heart of The Woodlands features ample free parking, water taxi and trolley service, concessions within the festival site and an array of eateries and shops within walking distance of the event. Features of the festival include interactive art activities for children in Town Green Park, student art exhibitions by public and private schools in Montgomery County, entertainment on two stages, and dining selections at "Palette Café" featuring cuisine from P.F. Chang's China Bistro and Jasper's Gourmet Backyard Cuisine.
New to the 2010 festival are kid-friendly activities, unique art and live entertainment at Waterway Square, all free of charge. One of the highlights of this new area is sidewalk art featuring eight highly-skilled artists who will create masterpieces on the sidewalks at Waterway Square using pastels. This area also features face painting, beverages, food by Hubbell & Hudson, and live music and entertainment Saturday until 8:30 p.m. and Sunday until 6 p.m.
"With this year being the fifth anniversary of the festival, we were excited to add the dimension of the activities at Waterway Square," Gottlieb said. "These activities and the Waterway Square venue add a new element of art and entertainment that tie in beautifully with the surroundings and enhance the festival. The sidewalk artists who create art on-site during the event are absolutely amazing. This is something everyone should see and experience."
The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival has announced the selection of Tanya Doskova, a printmaker from Vancouver, British Columbia, as the featured artist for the fifth annual event. Doskova has been featured in solo shows around the world and has won many prestigious awards including the John Purcell Prize for best lithograph, the Cannon Canada Gold Award, the Readers Digest Merit Award for Editorial Illustration and the Adobe Systems Gold Award to name a few.
